Removing visor stickers from Jeep Gladiator

I bought a 2020 Gladiator Mojave a few years and did quite a few modifications including an AEV lift, 37" tires, and adding a GFC rooftop tent.

But one of my favorite projects was trying to remove as much of the visual clutter from the interior.

This included swapping the mats, simplifying the Apple Play UI, simplifying labels, and removing the warning stickers from my visors.

These stickers are made from vinyl and use a pressure-sensitive adhesive. They're extremely durable and hard to remove, but eventually they will come off.

Here's how you get them off:

1. Remove your sun visors

Don't try to do this with the visors still in the car, it's much easier to take them inside to work on at the right angle.

Be gentle when you remove them since it's easy to break the plastic clips that hold the visors into the roof. (More on this later).

2. Heat the label

Start by warming the label so we can soften the adhesive. I used my wife's hairdryer on high heat, held ~4" away, and it had softened in ~30 seconds.

The goal is harm, not blazing hot.

3. Peel off the vinyl label

Use a razor blade or X-Aacto knife to lift the edge of the vinyl label. Do your best to avoid cutting your sun visor.

Once it starts to life, keep applying heat and slowly pull the label back at a 180° angle. It's much easier to remove the label in one piece, so do your best to avoid tear it.

If you have small pieces, use the head and knife to peel them off.

4. Clean off the adhesive

This will leave a bit of residue on the visors which you'll want to clean off. I soaked a microfiber cloth in ~90% isopropyl alcohol, pressed it against the glue spots for a couple minutes, then wiped the visors till they came clean.

My memory is that this took ~30 minutes for each visor, so I did it while watching TV.

5. Reinstall the visors

Once your visors are clean, you can reinstall them back into your Jeep.

If you accidentally broke the plastic clips, the visors will kinda sag and could even fall down. I did this to one of mine and bought these $14 clips from Amazon that work perfectly.

This project took ~2hrs total, but it definitely reduced the visual clutter in the cabin.

If you end up doing this project, shoot me an email or reach out Twitter, I'd love to hear about it!
